Diolch yn fawr to everyone who came to our Welsh Showcase afternoon to see how we learn Cymraeg at KS2
Our visitors were able to see us demonstrate some of the methods we use – we then challenged them to have a go themselves.
Here are some of the apps that we use to help us learn Welsh.
This morning all classes received a fantastic selection of new books for their class libraries.
All the children (and staff) are looking forwards to reading them.
Our sponsored read raised over £1,000 and encouraged our pupils to read a range of different types of stories.
Thank you to everyone who supported this event – Mrs Thomas for coordinating our sponsored read, Mrs Jones for counting the money, Mrs Beavis for ordering the books and pupils and parents for their hard work and generosity.
Thank you to Miss Richards and Miss McLoughlin for organising an enjoyable and successful Sports Day – as a staff we take great pride in the way the pupils support one another and this was truly evident during the races and team events.
Thank you to all the parents who loaned gazebos and helped to set up and clear away afterwards.
£130 was raised from the sale of lollies.
This money will be used to fund our Golden Time Celebration before the end of term.
Today Miss McLoughlin announced the winning team and presented certificates to pupils who had won the most points in their year group.
Congratulations to Brynach who were the winning team.

Pupils from Class 4 and 5 attended the Tanio’r Ddraig event in Saundersfoot celebrating and developing pupil leadership.
Our Criw Cymraeg presented the work they have done developing use of Welsh in school and have now been shortlisted for a Shwmae Award -this is an award for schools that are working towards their Welsh Language Charter and that have a positive attitude toward the Welsh Language.
Last year we were delighted to win the Pembrokeshire County Council Second language award and the fact that we have been shortlisted again is a testament to the excellent work done in promoting Welsh Language and culture in school.

Today Class 1 have been outside making mud sculptures
In Wales the Foundation Phase curriculum uses the outdoors as an important part of children’s learning.
Learning through play in the outdoors develops children’s physical skills as they learn. Children are able to learn in a very physical way that means that they think they are playing and so are more engaged in the tasks.
Research shows that children that play more in natural landscapes have better physical skills and is better for mental health and well-being. Natural environments are also full of ‘loose parts’ and objects that can be used for free play making it a great way for developing pupils’ creativity.
Activities that are outdoor learning are NOT just indoor activities taken outside. Outdoor learning gives unique opportunities for children to be more active, creative and engaged in their learning.
As part of their RE work this term Class 4 have been thinking about Stewardship.
They have drawn pictures and written poems about the people, places and things that they care about most in the world.
We were delighted to welcome PCSO Carwyn and PCSO Eirian in school today.
They came to work with Dosbarth 4 this afternoon.
They taught them some first aid techniques and talked about how we can stay safe and help other people who are injured or ill.
Pupils (and a past pupil) from Holy Name School were invited to present their coding work at the National Digital Learning Event in Newport Gwent today.
Despite an early start they were full of energy and eager to share their amazing work.
They talked about some of the projects they have created during Code Club sessions and showed how the work can support the teaching of the Digital Competency Framework.
Visitors to their stand included Kirsty Williams, Cabinet Secretary for Education who enjoyed hearing about all the exciting projects they have created. 
Pupils from Holy Name School welcomed visiting tourists by singing a range of their favourite Welsh and English songs.
Passengers were delighted to be serenaded and enjoyed the warm welcome.
