This week we took part in Cows On Tour. The whole school spent the morning at Ysgol Bro Gwaun.

The group, which is made up of Welsh farmers, has been running for five years and aim to educate children about where their food comes from. This year they are raising funds for R.A.B.I and the DPJ Foundation.

For one week in May, Cows On Tour visit five schools with livestock and machinery in tow. Children will learn about life as a farmer and have the chance to take part in activities like milking a model cow.

This week has been an exciting and successful week for Holy Name School.

Working with Mrs Rees, Eco Club have been  leading the school in preparation for assessment for a Keep Wales Tidy award and the Sustainable Schools Eco Silver Award.

On Tuesday we were assessed – Eco Club made a presentation showing examples of our learning and gave our visitors a tour of the school.

We were successful in achieving both awards.

Both Keep Wales Tidy and Pembrokeshire CountyCouncil will attend a Collective Worship to present the awards to the school.

On Tuesday Class 5 visited The National Library of Wales.

The National Library of Wales is the national legal deposit library of Wales.

It is the biggest library in Wales, holding over 6.5 million books and periodicals, and the largest collections of archives, portraits, maps and photographic images in Wales. The Library is also home to the national collection of Welsh manuscripts, the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales, and the most comprehensive collection of paintings and topographical prints in Wales.

We worked in the education room where we had the opportunity to look at artefacts from Tudor times. We also got to see behind the scenes and visit parts of the library that are not open to the public.

On the last day of term we spent the morning carrying out a range of activities designed to help our pupils understand the Four Core Purposes which are are an integral part of the new curriculum.

We want our pupils to be

• ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
• enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
• ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world , ready to be citizens of Wales and the world
• healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society

Pupils from Classes 2 and 3 spent an enjoyable day at Scolton Manor.

They spent the afternoon as Woodland Explorers. Activities included completing a nature scavenger hunt, learning about habitats in nature, making birds nests and searching for mini beasts.

Everyone had a great time exploring the woods at Scolton Manor.

As part of our Lead Creative School project Class Two have been working with local artists to design and create a set of benches.

The benches have been carved by the pupils working alongside Robert Jakes.

Parents were invited into school to see the installed benches and try out some of the activities completed by the pupils during the project.

Congratulations to pupils from Class 5 who represented the school at the Ysgol Bro Gwaun Maths Challenge this year.

The group and Florence will now go on to compete at the County Eisteddfod on Saturday.

It is often challenging to keep up with your children’s use of technology; what they are doing online, who they are chatting to, what games they are playing and what they are downloading and viewing.

Media and technology are at the very centre of all our lives today — especially our children’s.

The  content they consume and create has a profound impact on their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.  Learning how to use media and technology wisely is an essential skill for life and learning in the 21st century.
